Plymouth Travel

Plymouth is the gateway to much of the South West. Cornwall is a stones throw away, Dartmoor is a few minutes drive and the beautiful beaches and scenery of the South Hams is on Plymouth's doorstep.

Most of Plymouth's visitors are still from the British Isles and arrive through a combination of road, rail, sea and air.

Well Served by Road, Rail, Sea & Air

Plymouth is served by a main railway line, the M5 motorway to Exeter and A38 dual carriageway all the way to Plymouth. Plymouth has its own airport and Exeter's is only 35 minutes away. Plymouth has a main sea port a Marina and a versatile maritime infrastructure. Many people come and go via the sea, passing through or staying in Plymouth.

By Road

Take the M4 from West or East of the country to the M5 going south from Bristol . Follow the M5 south, then at Exeter (90 miles from Bristol) take the A380 dual carriageway to Plymouth . Take a left turning toward Plymouth (the sign posts are excellent). The carriageway continues on into Cornwall and bears right up toward the Moors. This is why Plymouth is such a great stopping off place!

By Train

First Great Western and Virgin trains operate to Plymouth train station on a regular basis from across the country. The main line goes through Newton Abbot train station (some people change here for a connection to Paignton, stopping at Torre train station and Torquay train station). Plymouth train station has taxi ranks outside.

Air South West also offers regular flights to many UK destinations, Newquay, down in Cornwall also has regular flights, although the traveling time may be longer especially in summer periods.
